Rainwater Attends Final School Board Meeting

Superintendent Steps Down June 30

UPDATED: 9:37 am CDT June 3, 2008

It was the end of an era at the Madison Metropolitan School District's Board of Education meeting on Monday night.

The meeting was the final one for Superintendent Art Rainwater, who retires from his post on June 30.

"I want to thank you for being a good listener and debater and most of all friend," said Board Member Lucy Mathiak. "We're not voting you off the island. We might ask you to come back for some reunion shows."

"If you know education in this country, this is a place you know about, and to be here has truly been a privilege," said Rainwater.

Green Bay Superintendent Daniel Nerad has been selected to replace Rainwater.
