Operation Fresh Start Awarded With New Grant

Wal-Mart Foundation Gives $100,000

POSTED: 3:12 pm CDT June 6, 2008

Some of Madison's youth were recognized on Wednesday for their hard work.

The Operation Fresh Start group celebrated not only the completion of another home, but the group also received a $100,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.

It's the largest single contribution Operation Fresh Start has ever received, WISC-TV reported.

As for the young builders, they said their experiences in the program have been life changing.

"A lot of people come into this program with problems, family problems or whatever, and I think building a house for people you don't know is a big step towards change, and it's really about change," said Daniel Coffee, of Operation Fresh Start.

With the grant from Wal-Mart, Operation Fresh Start will be able to build 18 new, energy-efficient homes.
