MADISON, Wis. -- The summer months are often a long and busy time for parents as they try to find ways to keep their children active while also learning over their school break.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportOne organization is bringing the learning to the children by truck, and it's been a hit throughout the summer.A child's most important teacher is his or her parent, and a new mobile program is bringing new lessons -- along with that influential relationship right into local neighborhoods, WISC-TV reported. It's the mobile play and educational truck, or as the children call it, "the Fun Bus."The truck is sponsored by the United Way and the Partners in Parenting Resource Center and is filled with all sorts of activities for children up to age 5 to keep them intellectually busy during the downtime in the summer months. But it's not just for the children. The organization makes sure the lessons continue right on to the parents as they are involved too -- making the play educational -- so children will pay attention, even with the summer distractions."If the kids aren't having fun, they're not going to want to do it," said Alyssa Coriell of Partners in Parting Resource Center. "They actually call us the fun bus. 'Oh, the fun bus is here,' so it's like we're an ice cream truck of school supplies or classroom activities."No registration is required to use the truck. Parents can just bring the children to the truck and help them work on their motor skills while also helping their children play with educational toys, WISC-TV reported. On Mondays, the mobile learning unit can be found at Yahara Elementary School in Stoughton from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and then at the Lakeview Park Shelter in Middleton from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.On Tuesdays, it makes a stop in the Town of Madison at the Partners in Parenting Resource Center from 9 a.m. to noon and Fridays at Westside Elementary School in Sun Prairie.
