Board Of Regents OK Budget Request On Friday

UPDATED: 11:31 am CDT August 22, 2008

The University of Wisconsin System officials are asking state lawmakers for an additional $51 million to continue plans to add students and expand academic and research programs through 2011.

The Board of Regents has approved the system's request for the two-year budget that runs from July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2011. Lawmakers are expected to pass that budget next year.

The system's request approved on Friday seeks $38 million in state funding and $13 million in student fees to pay for the so-called growth agenda. The plan would add 7,000 students by expanding programs for adults and allowing some campuses to boost their enrollment.

The request asks lawmakers for another $73 million to maintain current programs.
