"The girls are just excited to see everything and find out everything that's going on."The Madison Jewish Community Day School is the first of its kind in Dane County."We would like to grow this thing and make it part of the Madison education scene," said Merle Sweet.Sweet, a long-time Madison educator, came out of retirement to help bring this private school to the area."This is for families, Jewish families, who don't want their child's Jewish education to be another extra curricular activity," said Sweet.Students will learn English, math and science plus Jewish studies, WISC-TV reported."The children come to one school where they learn both the Hebrew and the English," said Oskin. The school is small, only seven students and two classrooms. But it’s an effort years in the making that combines education and Judaic customs."I'm hopeful that we could probably have someday a school of 70 to 90 children once it's K-8," said Sweet.School officials are still accepting kindergarten and first-grade students. Tuition is $10,000 a school year, but school officials said there are scholarships available. To learn more about the school, click here: Madison Jewish Community Day School.
