According to a study conducted by the University of Hafia and Jezreel Valley College, middle school children who have a television or computer in their room sleep less than their peers who don't.

The joint research study examined 444 middle school students with an average age of 14, and concluded that those who had televisions in their rooms slept an average of 30 minutes less per night than children without.

The students in the study were asked about their sleep habits, computer and television use, and their eating habits.

According to the study, middle school students watch an average of two hours and 40 minutes of TV a day, and use their computer for an average of three hours and 45 minutes during weekdays. However, children with a TV or computer use it an hour more than their peers, the study said.

The study also found that a child is more likely to eat in front of a screen if he or she spends a large amount of time there.

One fifth of the participants said they ate while watching TV on a regular basis. Only 10 percent of participants said they never ate while watching TV.

The computer area proved to be a less attractive place to dine, with half of participants saying they do not eat there. About 10 percent said they ate regularly at their computers, and 40 percent said they only eat near computers occasionally.
