Milwaukee Suburb Promoting Reusable Shopping Bags

Nearly 7,000 Bags Will Be Handed Out

A Milwaukee suburb is going green in an effort to keep plastic bags out of landfills.

Shorewood businesses are teaming up to pay for reusable shopping bags.

This weekend they are taking to the streets to hand out more of the nearly 7,000 bags.

Shorewood Conservation Committee is leading the door-to-door operation and said $720,000 plastic bags will stay out of landfills if each household uses the new "green" bags twice a week, WISC-TV reported.
