Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk are urging people to take advantage of a special collection by the Clean Sweep Program.

The goal is to reduce environmental damage done by heavy metals like lead and mercury, WISC-TV reported.

"The city of Madison and Dane County have been leaders in the nation on protecting people from mercury but we want to do even more," said Falk.

People can drop off mercury thermostats, compact fluorescent light bulbs, paint or even fishing and hunting equipment that contains lead.

The drop-off site is at 2302 Fish Hatchery Road. The dates are Aug. 12 - 16.
