Trees, Lawns Suffering From Lack Of Rain

Trees Starting To Turn Color

UPDATED: 8:08 am CDT August 22, 2008

Some area trees are already starting to turn color and wilt.

Horticulturists said that just watering one's lawn won't give trees the soaking hydration they need.

"Typically, what we want to see is a hose running nice and slowly, saturating that root zone, and then letting it dry out before you water again. You're not going to water in this type of condition though, so definitely take care of those trees, get them plenty of water at least once a week," said horticulturist Amy Sausen.

And just because the trees are turning fall-like colors already doesn't mean they're ready for an early autumn. They could simply be under stress from other factors like chemical runoff near roadways, WISC-TV reported.
