Hundreds of cyclists took to the streets of Madison on Sunday for a quirky bicycle scavenger hunt.

The event was part of the second-annual urban assault ride.

The scavenger hunt sent two-person teams riding to checkpoints around Madison and completing crazy obstacle courses at each stop.

There was no set course, so teams had to figure out the shortest route around Madison.

The event, which doubled in participants from last year, was designed to encourage more people to use bicycles for day-to-day transportation.

"I think a lot of people want to ride their bike but they don't realize how easy it is around town, so we're just trying to show people that they're very efficient routes," said ride director Josh Kravetz.

The next stop for the urban assault ride is Minneapolis and Chicago.
