Wisconsin Hospitals Work On Going Green

Medical Center Switches To Reusable Plates

POSTED: 11:07 am CST November 8, 2008

Wisconsin hospitals are setting an example for businesses interested in going green.

Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers has switched to reusable plates and silverware in the cafeteria that serves 1,000 meals a day. Food service manager Cindy Jones said she's cutting out Styrofoam and other disposable items likely to end up in landfills.

Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc sends its used cooking oil to be recycled into bio-diesel fuel.

Administrator Tim Klein said the hospital is also looking into using glasses rather than disposable cups, but it's not clear if washing lots of glasses will be more environmentally friendly than throwing away cups.
