VIDEO: Watch The ReportAARP said health care, entertainment, the accommodating university system and the overall quality of life in Madison make it one of the best places to retire."What Madison has to offer is some of the advantages of a big city -- the Overture Center, the cultural outlets, the access to Big 10 sports. But at the same time, we have some of the advantages of a smaller community," said Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz.Another factor that helped get Madison ranked high on the list is the city's expanding senior center, WISC-TV reported.Cieslewicz also credits the baby boomer generation with revitalizing the city, especially downtown."They're contributing to the vibrance of downtown Madison and bring their experiences and their stories and their backgrounds to the city," said Cieslewicz. "They mix it up with the students here and they create this downtown vibrance that's so important economic development of our city."The local chapter of the AARP said it hopes the list will get more people thinking about making Madison home. The AARP list ranks Madison behind only Ann Arbor, Mich., and Honolulu, Hawaii. The entire list will be featured in AARP's September-October issue of its magazine.
