UPDATED: 4:03 pm CDT October 1, 2008

Gov. Jim Doyle announced that SAFC, Inc., of Madison will receive $292,500 in Enterprise Development Zone tax credits for its $30 million expansion project in Verona.

“Wisconsin continues to be a place that pushes the frontiers of life science and discovery through research and development,” said Doyle. “I’m pleased that SAFC has chosen to expand in Wisconsin, and that we could assist the company in bringing new, good-paying jobs to Dane County.”

According to a news release from Doyle's office, SAFC, Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry. The company is investing $30 million to construct and equip a new, large-scale manufacturing facility in Verona. The project is expected to create 45 jobs and retain 75 jobs, and will build on Wisconsin’s leadership in the life science and biotechnology sectors.

SAFC, Inc. was founded in 1989 as Tetrionics and was acquired by Sigma Aldrich Corporation in 2004, according to the release.
