AAA spokeswoman Pam Moen said they're not ruling out the possibility of seeing signs advertising gas for $3 a gallon before fall is over, WISC-TV reported.

"While lower gas prices are certainly welcome and good news for consumers, it's part of the overall bad news that's going on with the state of our nation's economy… we probably wouldn't see gas prices dropping to the levels that we are today and the weeks to come, if we weren't suffering through the economic crisis that we are," said Moen.

Said Moen, "While one of piece of the puzzle is good in that we'll finally be paying less for gas, in the big picture, lower gas prices are an indicator of the larger problem that are facing our economy."

Moen said $3.50 a gallon seems to be the threshold for many drivers. She said if gas prices can get there, that might make people feel less hesitant about driving where they need to go.
