His body was discovered after a report of shots fired in the 2200 block of Cypress Way.Some residents said that it's been tough to celebrate the holiday weekend with the killing on their minds, but some said that safety in the area has been an ongoing issue, WISC-TV reported.Resident Jorge Sanchez said that he admits he knew nothing about the murder in his apartment complex on Wednesday night."I saw l like four or five police cars parking over the sidewalk, right here in front of that building where I live," Sanchez said. "And I didn't know about the murder."Even after seeing police on the scene, Sanchez said that he figured it was yet another incident involving vandalism."I don't know it kind of feels like living in a ghetto," he said. "Well, I'm always worried about my car because actually one of my roommates, they got his car broken into. And they stole the stereo and did a lot of damage in his car."Lysundra Alawiye was once a nearby resident who said that a lot has changed."When I lived in this area, things were quite different, and I guess I didn't feel as uneasy as I feel now. However, I think that there's been a big change in this area within the last few years," Alawiye said.Alawiye said that a lot of that change made its way under the radar."It really is kind of alarming to me that there are a couple of police stations that are right here in the immediate area, and there's still this type of activity that's going on," she said.Sanchez said that he's decided to move, partially out of safety concerns."I am moving. We are moving, actually, my roommates and I. We are. We are moving to somewhere else," he said.Madison police said that the victim didn't live in the apartment where he was found. The residents said that individuals that don't live there have come in and out of the apartment in recent weeks. This is the second murder investigation in the past year and a half for this area, WISC-TV reported.Members of the Burr Oaks Neighborhood Association have been very vigilant about this. Residents have had more than 500 overnight neighborhood walks for the past six years and the group said that while the recent incident is shock to all, neighborhood leaders said that things are slowly getting better.Police are looking for two men linked to the shooting. One man was described as about 6 feet 5 inches tall and wearing a dark winter jacket with cartoon characters. The second was described as about 6 feet tall with facial hair or a goatee and was also wearing dark clothing.Authorities said that anyone with information about the killing should call Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
