VERONA, Wis. -- Residents got a closer look at plans for a county-run nursing home facility on Monday night. The Badger Prairie Health Care Center will be built just behind the existing site off Highways 18 and 151 in Verona. Current plans include 120 private beds and baths and an outdoor space, WISC-TV reported. The existing Badger Prairie facility, which was built in the 1960s, will be torn down once construction on the new space is complete. At Monday night's meeting, residents got a chance to weigh in on several design elements including landscaping, building materials and color use."Oh, it's beautiful," said Verona resident Bev Young. "I hike frequently in the park, for years, and I've wanted to see more of the residents out walking. Now I think with this they will be outside.""The residents that we are serving are becoming more and more serious and I think it's going to allow us to accommodate their privacy with private bedrooms," said Lynn Green, director of Dane County Department of Human Services. "They'll be able to get outside. It will definitely enhance our role."Construction on the $21-million facility is slated to start next summer and wrap up in 2010.
