Marquette County Dam Flood Gates Opened
County Official Says There's $500K In Structural Damage

BRIGGSVILLE, Wis. -- The waters of Lake Mason on the rise near the small town of Briggsville in Marquette County.Volunteer firefighters and residents were out throughout Sunday evening filling sandbags near the dam on Lake Mason.Marquette County Emergency Management officials said they have opened the flood gates on the dam to 86 percent capacity."This is not a crisis situation," said Kristine Leverich of the Marquette County Emergency Management. " This is merely a precaution."Leverich said she's more concerned about the nearly half-million dollars of structural damage sustained on Saturday night from the strong winds and possible tornado.Some residents said they fear their backyards, basements and barns will flood, with more rain expected later in the week, WISC-TV reported.
