State officials closed the westbound lanes as a precaution Tuesday night. Eastbound traffic weren't affected, WISC-TV reported.

They reopened the road at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Wisconsin Emergency Management spokeswoman Jan Klawitter said that the water levels have dropped about a foot from Tuesday.

On Tuesday night, authorities said that the Rock River was just 5 inches from the highway. State officials said that they decided to close the westbound lanes as a precaution.

"The DOT bridge inspectors were out there and they determined that the bridge had no damage or threats so it was safe to be reopened," she said.

Klawitter said that they'll continue to monitor the situation because more rain is expected on Thursday and the river could rise again.

Emergency Operations Center spokesman Mike Goetzman said eastbound lanes were higher than the westbound ones. He said no other interstate lanes have been shut down yet due to the flooding, but a portion of I-94 near Highway 33 around Portage is being monitored.

Goetzman said that conditions at various dams threatened by high water remain about the same.

Forecasters expect about an inch more rain throughout southeast Wisconsin starting Thursday afternoon and into the evening, but the storm front will be gone by Friday morning.

Meanwhile, Highway 151 is also back open near Columbus. The roadway was reopened at about 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

The north and southbound lanes of the highway, near Highway 73, were closed all day on Tuesday, WISC-TV reported.

The Crawfish River swelled over its banks and onto the highway..

Tractor-trailer truckers were allowed to travel on the road, but other vehicles were rerouted.
