Deal Could Open Way For Other Providers

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin sports fans may soon be able to watch Badger football and basketball games that are aired on the Big Ten Network as it has reached a deal with Comcast Cable.The agreement between the two companies could open the door for local cable providers to carry the Big Ten Network.A telecommunications expert told WISC-TV that the network could be shown here soon."The theory is that the Comcast deal will break the log jam and soon (the network will) have a deal with Time Warner and then Charter and we’re in Charter territory,” said Bary Orton, a University of Wisconsin telecommunications professor.Currently there is no word on a deal between the network and Charter, WISC-TV reported.Comcast will start carrying the channel on Aug.15The Big Ten Network now reaches 35 million homes.
