MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police said it appears that a domestic fight led to the death of a woman found in an apartment building on the city's south side Tuesday afternoon. The Dane County coroner said that Cassandra Mays, 45, was stabbed. She was found in an upstairs apartment in the 900 block of West Badger Road just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday.A preliminary finding by the coroner said Mays died as the result of blood loss from multiple stab wounds. Investigators said that they're treating the woman's death as a homicide.Police said Daniel Wright, 50, who lived with Mays, suffered non-life-threatening stab wounds. Wright was transported to a hospital.Police have talked to Wright at the hospital, WISC-TV reported. They have not pressed any charges against him, and investigators said they are not in a hurry to do so since he is hospitalized and being held on outstanding warrants.Authorities said on Wednesday that they don't think a third party was involved in this incident and that the situation appears to be a domestic disturbance."At this point, we don't believe there's a threat to the community. This appears to be an isolated incident, and those involved knew one another," said Joel DeSpain, spokesman for the Madison Police Department, on Tuesday.DeSpain said there have been five homicides in Madison in the past year.Residents of the Burr Oaks neighborhood said thefts, drug dealing and prostitution have been ongoing problems in the area.
