Suspect In Badger Road Stabbing Faces Tentative Charges

Police Found Woman Dead In Apartment

UPDATED: 8:57 am CDT July 19, 2008

A man injured in a stabbing on Tuesday that left one woman dead is now in custody and is tentatively facing first-degree homicide charges.

Daniel Lee Wright, 50, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the stabbing that occurred in the 900 block of West Badger Road on Tuesday afternoon, WISC-TV reported.

Madison police found 45-year-old Cassandra Mays dead in an upstairs apartment.

Police said it appears that a domestic fight led to the death of Mays in an apartment building on the city's south side. Wright and Mays had been living together, WISC-TV reported.

A preliminary finding by the coroner said Mays died as the result of blood loss from multiple stab wounds. Investigators said that they're treating the woman's death as a homicide.

According to the criminal complaint Wright called 911 saying, "Me and my girl were fighting. She had a knife and we fight over the knife and I cut her." He goes on to say, "She's dead, man, she's dead."

A few moments later, the dispatcher heard Wright try to commit suicide, according to the complaint.
