Doyle Gives Stewardship Grant To Protect Prairie, Farmland
Grant Will Purchase 153 Acres Of Land

BARNEVELD, Wis. -- Thanks to a stewardship grant by Gov. Jim Doyle, land that was slated for residential development will stay prairie and farm land in Iowa County.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportDoyle gave the Nature Conservancy $405,000 to purchase 153 acres of land in the Military Ridge Prairie Heritage Area.Thomson Prairie will be expanded, further protecting grasslands and wildlife."We have been committed to land preservation to doing it in a way that really, not only protects, but as in this case here, restores the natural beauty of Wisconsin," said Doyle.The site will be open for some public recreation activities like hiking, cross-county skiing and nature study
