Authorities: 2 Flee Scene After Dane County Crash

Dane County Sheriff's Office Investigates Crash

UPDATED: 9:02 pm CDT August 26, 2008

The Dane County Sheriff's Department said that two people in a vehicle involved in a crash Monday evening fled the scene after being injured in the collision but have both been located by authorities.

At about 8:15 p.m. Monday, Dane County sheriff's deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on state Highway 138 and Starr School Road in the town of Rutland.

The Dane County Sheriff's Department said a Stoughton 18-year-old and her 16-year-old brother were traveling in a Jeep Cherokee westbound on state Highway 138, and when the driver attempted to make a turn onto Starr School Road, the Jeep was rear-ended by a Chevy Blazer.

Authorities said that both the driver and passenger of the Chevy Blazer then fled the scene of the crash on foot.

Authorities said a deputy and K-9 officer helped locate one of the occupants of the Chevy. Authorities said Tyler M. Miller, 19, of Stoughton, was located in a nearby cornfield.

Dane County sheriff's officials said Miller suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported by MedFlight to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Sheriff's officials said that deputies located the second occupant of the Chevy on Tuesday. Authorities said Damien S. Georgeson, 18, of Stoughton, was located at a residence in Stoughton at about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday. He was initially taken to Stoughton Hospital, but has been transferred to UW Hospital due to the extent of his injuries. Authorities said Georgeson is being held on an outstanding warrant for two counts of battery.

Both occupants of the Jeep were wearing their seat belts and were transported by Stoughton EMS to a hospital with non-life-threatening injures.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the hit-and-run crash and they said charges relating to the incident are pending. Authorities said anyone with information on the crash should call the Dane County tip line at 608-284-6900.
