As a result of the move, WISC-TV will share resources and coverage with Gazette staff, bringing expanded coverage to residents.

WISC-TV news director Tom Bier said the new partnership with the Janesville Gazette will help the station and newspaper better serve Rock County viewers.

Bier said the move will further cement WISC-TV's relationship with Gazette-owned radio station WCLO Radio, where WISC-TV meteorologists already file weather reports. The radio station is located in the same building as the Gazette.

"This move enhances the long time partnership we've had with the Gazette and WCLO Radio since 1981 when our Rock Country news bureau opened," Bier said. "I expect all three organizations will be able to provide even better news coverage on TV, on radio in the paper and especially on our respective Web sites. There may be some who have seen us as competitors but in reality, we're partners, partners in providing Rock County residents with the excellent news coverage they come to expect from the Gazette, WCLO and WISC-TV."

Gazette editor Scott W. Angus said he thinks the partnership adds credibility to WISC-TV’s Rock County operation by expanding the station's resources and experience in the form of the Gazette's and radio stations' staffs.

The Gazette, in particular, will benefit from sharing ideas with Chaimson and other members of WISC-TV's staff and from the exposure provided by frequent references to the Gazette and appearances by its staff on Channel 3, Angus said.

"They get better news, and we get lots of promotion," Angus said. "That's a good deal for everybody."

WISC-TV's Rock County bureau, which opened in 1981, had been located in the basement of the terminal building at the Rock County Airport, which is located between Janesville and Beloit.
