Police Say Incident Reported Saturday

POSTED: 2:42 pm CDT October 13, 2008

Madison police said they are investigating an attempted sexual assault downtown on Saturday night.

Police said that around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, a 20-year-old Madison woman told police that a man tried to sexually assault her earlier in the evening.

Police said the victim was unsure of the exact time and location but told police it occurred somewhere in the area of East Johnson Street and Pinckney Street.

Police said the victim told investigators a man pulled her from the sidewalk to a more secluded area, where he tried to sexually assault her. The victim said she was able to get away and the perpetrator ran westbound on Johnson Street.

Police said the perpetrator is described as a black man, 25-35 years old with short black hair, a slender build and an earring in one ear. He was wearing a dark T-shirt and jeans, police said.
