United Way Of Dane County Projects Record-High Donations
Celebration Luncheon Held Thursday

MADISON, Wis. -- Despite tough economic times, the Dane County community is giving in record numbers.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportUnited Way of Dane County is projecting a record high of $16.65 million in donations this year. More than 800 supporters attended the campaign's celebration luncheon Thursday that started with a dramatic entrance by the campaign's chairman.Jim Riordan, the 2008 United Way Campaign chair and CEO & president of WPS Health Insurance, rode in on a donated Harley Davidson as part of the donation sweepstakes."We were hoping that people would respond despite the things that are going on in the economy. We were taking a message out to the community that, frankly, in times like this people that need our help, need it more, and people responded, and it was awesome," said Mike Victorson, campaign vice-chair and CEO of M3 insurance.This year, instead of big gifts, the United Way said a surge of small ones really made a difference.In 2007, $16 million in contributions went toward such improvements as early childhood development and increasing independence for seniors.Thursday's celebration luncheon was emceed by WISC-TV's Andy Choi and Maria Guerrero.
