Condition Of Donald Driver's Father Upgraded
Family Wants Officers Off Streets

HOUSTON -- The father of Green Bay Packers' wide receiver Donald Driver is reported in good condition at a hospital Thursday, after his family said he was beaten up by two police officers when he was stopped for outstanding traffic warrants.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportA spokeswoman for Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center said Marvin Driver Jr., 56, was upgraded last night from critical condition to good condition.The family has said in a statement that Driver was to be taken to jail after being stopped, but that he was beaten before getting there. The family said that Driver has been able to communicate through notes.Houston police issued a statement saying that after the arrest, Driver was placed in the back of a patrol unit, and when he got to jail he was unresponsive and paramedics were called.Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt told reporters he intends the investigation into what happened to be transparent. He said a preliminary report on the internal affairs probe should be completed soon.Houston police said that both accused officers remain on duty pending further investigation.The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Driver's family wants the officers they said are responsible for causing Marvin Driver Jr. to suffer a brain hemorrhage taken off the streets until the investigation is complete."These are the same people that, under oath, swore to protect and serve. If you can't trust these people then, I mean, who can we trust?" said Michael Driver, son of Marvin Driver Jr. and brother of Donald Driver.Houston television station KHOU reported Driver has been using paper towels to write what happened to him. Driver reportedly wrote that the officers, whom he said he knew personally, took him to a station, kicked him in the stomach, elbowed him in the neck and forced something down his throat.Donald Driver is expected to play Monday when Green Bay plays at New Orleans.
