Animart To Fund Additional K-9 Unit

$50,000 To Cover Cost Of Training And Equipment

POSTED: 6:59 am CST November 30, 2008

A member of Madison's police K-9 unit showed off his stuff at the East Side Animart on Saturday as part of a "tail" gate party.

Animart took the opportunity to announce a $50,000 sponsorship through Capital K-9s to cover the cost of another dog, including training and equipping a squad car for the K-9 unit next year.

Formed in 2004, Capital K-9s is a nonprofit organization comprised of Madison-area volunteers that assist the Madison Police Department in establishing a patrol K-9 unit.

Animart officials hope to welcome the new officer once the pup is on the job.

"I'm sure that we will be putting together an event and inviting everybody here to hopefully meet the new dog," said Animart's Lisa Lasack. "Hopefully, we'll do some demonstrations when he's on the force."
