Muzzleloader Season Opens Monday

Gun-Deer Season Ended Sunday

UPDATED: 11:03 am CST December 1, 2008

The state's gun-deer season closed on Sunday, but deer hunting isn't over in Wisconsin.

The state's 10-day muzzleloader season opens on Monday. The state Department of Natural Resources said the muzzleloader season offers a more relaxed, less crowded atmosphere.

Blaze orange garb is still required. DNR weapons safety instructors caution hunters to keep their powder dry and avoid misfires -- where powder doesn't ignite -- or hangfires -- where there is a delay in the discharge.

Muzzleloader hunters took 10,400 deer last year.

The day after the muzzleloader season wraps up on Dec. 10, a four-day statewide antlerless hunt begins.
