UPDATED: 2:55 p.m. CST November 14, 2003
MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police warn those who solicit prostitutes -- you may be surprised with what you get.
Madison police assumed the role of hookers in the Burr Oaks
neighborhood Wednesday night and picked up six would-be customers during the sting.
Two undercover male officers, watching their female
counterparts, were hit on by a woman willing to sell sex for
money, News 3 reported.
Police arrested:
Richard A. Powell of Madison for prostitution
Nicolas A. Briones for prostitution
Abraham Garcia Pedro of Madison for prostitution
Rolands G. Aravindan of Madison for prostitution
Carlos Covarrubias of Madison for prostitution
Kathleen G. Tuberville of Sun Prairie for prostitution
Residents and police have been working hard to improve the
South side area, and drug-related crime has
dropped more than 80 percent in
the past year, News 3 reported.
"We like to nip it in the bud, and take care of the problems that come," said neighborhood police officer Tom Grosse. "It's a lot easier now that we've seen such a dramatic decrease in the
overcall calls for service as
well as other violent crimes."
Among other activities, Burr Oaks neighbors hold a
weekly "Take Back The Streets"
walk.
