MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police released new information on Tuesday about plans for this weekend's Rhythm & Booms event. At a news conference on Tuesday, authorities said that traffic plans will be similar to what they've been in the last few years for the annual event, but organizers will be encouraging people to stick around after fireworks this year, WISC-TV reported. In contrast to years past, the music stage and vendor stands will be open until the event closes at 11:30 p.m. Organizers said that they hope this will alleviate traffic congestion right after fireworks.Terry Kelly, the event's president, said on Monday that they he's encouraging those attending to hang out afterward."Give that a try," Kelly said. "It's a lot better than sitting in your cars for an hour. Come and celebrate with us and pass a little bit of time after the event."Another addition to this year's Fourth of July celebration will be a Sesquicentennial Park, where multi-cultural events will celebrate Madison's 150th birthday. Also new this year will be a children's area featuring soccer, inflatable rides and kite flying, along with a full carnival.Rhythm & Booms is expected to draw more than 300,000 spectators on Saturday to Madison's Warner Park. The rain date for the event is Sunday, July 2.Related Link:
