RACINE, Wis. -- He'll talk about the Iraq war, gas prices and fighting terrorism. But don't look to Republican presidential candidate John McCain to weigh in on the Brett Favre saga.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportThe first question at McCain's town hall meeting Thursday in Racine focused on Favre, who wants to come out of retirement but might not play for the Green Bay Packers.The questioner said McCain would carry Wisconsin in the election if he could resolve the Favre controversy.McCain laughed, saying there are a lot of controversies he has eagerly leapt into in his lifetime. But, he said, "I'm not so dumb that I'm going to jump into that one."McCain went on to say that no matter what happens, everyone agrees that Favre has provided America and the state of Wisconsin with some of its greatest memories.
McCain Meets With Former Clinton Backer
McCain had coffee Thursday with a former Wisconsin Democratic Party delegate who wanted to vote for him at her party's national convention instead of Barack Obama.McCain had coffee with Debra Bartoshevich, her 16-year-old daughter and Bartoshevich's father at a Racine coffee shop before heading to the city's civic center where about 900 people attended a town hall meeting.Bartoshevich had pledged to support Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton. But after Clinton lost to Obama, Bartoshevich said she intended to vote for McCain instead.The state Democratic Party dumped her as a delegate last week.Copyright 2008 by Channel 3000.
