GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Packers general manager Ted Thompson said that he has had some "kicking of tires" conversations with other teams about a possible trade for Brett Favre.Favre retired in the spring but now wants to play again. But the Packers have committed to Aaron Rodgers.Thompson said he spoke twice with Favre on Saturday, for about 45 minutes each time. He said they "sort of agreed to disagree."They also agreed that Favre would not come to training camp for a couple of days while they try to sort things out.Thompson said he doesn't think it would be a good idea for the Packers to release Favre from his contract, which doesn't expire until after the 2010 season. The Packers don't want to see their legendary quarterback playing for an NFC North rival. Before reporting to camp, Favre first would have to file for reinstatement with the league and have his request approved by commissioner Roger Goodell. Then he'd have to pass a team physical. The quarterback told Peter King of Sports Illustrated and Chris Mortenson of ESPN that he signed reinstatement papers but hasn't sent them to the NFL commissioner's office.Favre also told Mortenson that he was told by Thompson that Thompson would be fired if Favre walked into the training camp. He went on to say that his wife, Deanna, and his agent Bus Cook told him that he was stupid for letting the Packers "play you like this."
