Wis. Gymnast Withdraws From Olympics With Injury

Hamm Has Ankle Injury

UPDATED: 6:34 pm CDT August 7, 2008

Wisconsin's Olympic dreams are quickly hitting the sidelines.

First world champion gymnast Paul Hamm had to withdraw with an injury and now his brother Morgan is doing the same thing.

The twins are from Waukesha.

Morgan Hamm's Olympic story came to an end after he withdrew Thursday from the U.S. men's gymnastics team with a left ankle injury.

"I've put my heart and soul into gymnastics and to get here and not be able to perform because of an injury is extremely disappointing, but at the same time I'm a team player and I'm here to do whatever I can for this team," said Morgan Hamm.

Another Wisconsin gymnast, and former world champion Chellsie Memmel, is also nursing an injury, but she is expected to compete at the Olympics. The 20-year-old is from West Allis.
