Channel 3000 Launches News Portal Section

Scanner Provides Additional Articles From Around Wisconsin, Nation

UPDATED: 2:39 pm CDT October 18, 2007

Channel 3000 is launching a news and sports portal section called "Channel 3000 Scanner," which will offer viewers a broader selection of statewide and national news and information accessible from the Channel 3000 homepage.

Scanner will provide increased value to Channel 3000 readers, allowing them to access a variety of news and sports stories from a single Web destination at Channel3000.com.

Scanner is in essence a news aggregator, which means that it collects and offers links to relevant stories from various media outlets around Wisconsin and nationally. It incorporates more than 100 feeds from the largest and most prestigious television and newspaper Web sites.

Now, when viewers go to Channel 3000, they will not only get Channel 3000's original content, but they will also be able to easily view and access additional media coverage that might be of interest.

"Channel 3000 realizes that its users want the most complete local coverage available, and Scanner provides a convenient way for users to obtain that information without having to seek out several independent news sites," said David Hyland, managing editor of Channel 3000.

In Wisconsin, Scanner will compile content from multiple media sources in the Madison, Milwaukee, La Crosse, Green Bay, Stevens Point and Eau Claire areas. The Scanner page consists of a map that allows users to click on the region of interest to access stories from that area. A map of the United States includes headlines from the largest media companies in the world, including CNN, CBS, The New York Times, Fox News, MSNBC, and USA Today.

Users can find the Scanner aggregation section on the front page of Channel 3000, just below the "National/World" headlines section. You can also find the Scanner sports section on Channel 3000's Sports section, below the national sports story.
