Weather watchers can keep on the latest weather happenings with a new weather radio.

WISC-TV and Channel 3000 have arranged for several weather radios to be made available for sale.

NOAA Weather Radio is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information direct from a nearby National Weather Service office. NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Working with the Federal Communication Commission's Emergency Alert System, NOAA Weather Radio is an "all hazards" radio network, making it the single source for the most comprehensive weather and emergency information available to the public. NOAA Weather Radio also broadcasts warning and post-event information for all types of hazards -- both natural, such as earthquake and volcano activity, and environmental, such as chemical releases or oil spills.

NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards transmitters broadcast on one of seven VHF frequencies from 162.400 MHz to 162.550 MHz. Check county codes for Wisconsin here.

The broadcasts cannot be heard on a simple AM/FM radio receiver. However, there are many receiver options, ranging from handheld portable units, which just pick up Weather Radio, to desktop and console models, which receive Weather Radio in addition to other broadcasts.
