Karin Swanson joined the WISC-TV weather team in 2003 and is extremely happy to have returned to Madison. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000 with degrees in Atmospheric Science and in Spanish. While attending the university, Karin earned a varsity letter on the women's lightweight rowing team.

Karin started her broadcasting career in Wausau, Wis., where she worked as the meteorologist for the FOX 55 "News at Nine" newscast. She also had fill-in duties for WAOW, the ABC affiliate in Wausau. In addition to forecasting the weather on TV, she gained experience working for a private forecasting company, giving forecasts to radio stations, agriculture companies, power companies and ski resorts.

The Twin Cities native's interest in meteorology started as a child.

"My dad is a pilot and would always tell me about what was happening with the weather when we were flying or when we were out camping," Swanson said. "I developed a fascination with the weather that has continued throughout my life."

Karin holds the prestigious AMS Seal of Approval. She is also a member of the American Meteorological Society and of the National Weather Association. Karin received the Eric Severeid Award from the Northwest Broadcast News Association for First Place Weathercast in a medium television market in 2006.

At WISC-TV, Karin enjoys being out in the elements and sharing weather related stories, as well as various feature stories for "News 3 This Morning." Her most recent feature is called "Whiz Kids." If your classroom has a fun or unique science experiment it would like to share, just send a description of the experiment to whizkids@channel3000.com. One classroom will be selected each month to perform and explain their experiment on "News 3 This Morning" to Karin.
